In SON OF SATAN #1, an unnamed Navaho brave attempts to go on a vision-quest, but a mystic villain, the Possessor, appears to him, pretending to be a god. The evildoer transforms the brave into Nightfire, and then ensorcels the guy's tribe, using them as pawns in his quest to conquer Hell itself. The comic's star Daimon Hellstrom defeats the Possessor, but Nightfire proves powerful enough to win a fight with a high-level demon named Baphomet. For some reason Nightfire is unable to transform back to an ordinary person, but seems OK with it, probably because his writer hoped to promote him into a series. But the character only appeared in the first three issues of the Hellstrom title.
