CROSSOVER MADNESS

I hadn't heard of the revival of WEIRDWORLD by Marvel in the 2010s until I saw said world make an appearance in 2024's DEADPOOL TEAM-UP.  I don't know if writer/artist Rob Liefeld saw both of the WEIRDWORLD serials-- a five-issue series in 2015, and another six issues in 2016-- but I tend to think he only saw the first one, since the first series was the one that revived Crystar for the Marvel Universe.

Of the two serials, both feature the painted art of Mike del Mundo, but Jason Aaron was the writer for the first and Sam Humphries did the second. Aaron leans more into conceiving Weirdworld as a concatenation of old Marvel leftovers: sort of an "Island of Misfit Icons," including star Arkon (a sometimes AVENGERS foe), Skull the Slayer, Jennifer Kale from the first MAN-THING series, and Morgan LeFay from the first SPIDER-WOMAN series. The follow-up by Humphries dumps Arkon in favor of an Earth-teen named Becca and doesn't introduce any new icons, but just repeats Morgan, Jennifer and Skull. Neither is great but Aaron's is the better of the two.

A 2017 episode of AVENGERS ASSEMBLE has some of the heroes visit the show's version of Weirdworld, but this time the only WW icon in the story is the villainous Morgan Le Fay.
